Yes. Visitors need a temporary Saint Lucia driving permit as well as a valid driving licence from home. Rental companies commonly arrange the permit when you collect the car and add the fee to your bill. Fees and validity periods can change, so confirm the current amount with the company and check the official sources linked on this page.
Most international flights land at Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in Vieux Fort at the southern tip of the island. Regional flights use George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) beside Castries in the north-west. Check your ticket, then confirm that the rental company actually operates from that airport, where it meets arrivals and whether a fee applies.
A compact car handles most paved routes and is easiest to park. Choose a small SUV or a larger vehicle when you have more passengers or luggage, or when your accommodation's access road is steep.
