Worth planning ahead
The Scenic Railway usually needs advance booking, and Nevis requires careful ferry or water-taxi coordination. Confirm the complete timing before committing to either.
St. Kitts Scenic Railway
A narrow-gauge train built to carry sugar cane now loops the island's coast with sea, mountain and plantation views. The full experience runs about three hours, so treat it as its own itinerary rather than an add-on.
Can you visit Nevis?
Best for longer port calls only. Confirm current ferry or water-taxi schedules and keep a substantial return-to-ship buffer.
Nevis is a separate island. The Nevis Tourism Authority lists passenger ferries between Basseterre and Charlestown at approximately 25–45 minutes. Water taxis generally leave from southern St. Kitts, so add a road transfer from Port Zante. Schedules and sea conditions can change — verify arrangements before relying on this option; a same-day trip is never guaranteed.
